Our goal is to help you judge the offer, not rush you into buying. Here is what goes into a published listing.
1. Identify the exact product
We check the model, seller, condition, and relevant specifications. For computers, that includes processor, graphics, memory, and storage. For displays, size and resolution matter. Conflicting retailer specifications are flagged instead of silently treated as fact.
2. Check the offer at its source
We open the retailer’s product page, check the displayed price and purchase availability, and save the product link with a check time. Prices are in US dollars and may exclude tax and shipping. Stock, shipping, and pickup options depend on location.
3. Explain who it may suit
Each listing includes our editorial assessment and a concrete limitation. These are specification-based assessments, not hands-on product reviews. We do not invent benchmark scores, testimonials, price histories, or “lowest ever” claims.
4. Keep savings claims specific
We accept offers saving at least 10%, or at least $50 on a laptop or desktop, calculated before rounding. The homepage starts at 15%+ off; choose 10%+, 20%+, or 30%+ off to adjust your minimum savings filter. Offers below 10% admitted by the $50 rule do not appear in percentage views. We focus on established brands in laptops, desktops, monitors, tablets and storage, in New, Certified Refurbished or Manufacturer Open-Box condition. We rank by percentage savings, then dollar savings, with up to 60 products per category and 300 overall. These rankings compare advertised savings, not independent performance or market-value scores. Best Buy offers may qualify against its labeled Comparable Value. That value is a comparison benchmark, not necessarily a previous selling price. Amazon offers use a supported previous or Typical Price, or a verified coupon; Newegg coupons show the required code. Each comparison basis is identified beside the price. We leave offer end dates blank when the retailer does not give a reliable deadline.
5. Flag delayed verification
Published prices are snapshots, not live feeds. When a daily refresh is delayed, the last verified catalog remains available with a clear warning to confirm price and availability at the retailer. Listings still leave the catalog when an offer expires, becomes unavailable, or is retired after verification.
TechDealCompass Deal Rating
Our deal rating rates the advertised savings and price evidence into four clear tiers: Exceptional Deal (35%+ savings or steep coupon markdowns), Great Deal (25%–34% savings), Good Deal (15%–24% savings), and Fair Price (10%–14% savings). Ratings are grounded in documented retailer evidence such as verified coupons, Best Buy Comparable Values, and Amazon Typical Prices.
Ratings are calculated from the current recorded offer and withheld for stale or unsupported prices. We do not use retailer customer ratings, affiliate commissions, or invented price history in this rating. Version 1 of this method applies consistently across all retailers.
Retailer customer ratings
Stars and counts are attributed to the retailer and linked to the product source. They describe retailer customer feedback, not a TechDealCompass review. We show only verified values on a five-point scale, label ratings separately from written reviews, and note when the retailer combines configurations. Missing or unverifiable ratings are omitted rather than shown as zero. Rating snapshots expire after 30 days unless checked again. Retailer ratings and our Deal Score are not published as our own product review or aggregate-rating structured data.
